Zambian Breweries together with Lafarge Zambia have donated medical supplies worth K100,000 to Tubalange Mini-Hospital in Chilanga from funds raised from the Mosi Vibes At Home online party, which the two organisations partnered on.

The donation is part of the ties cemented between Zambia’s largest brewing company and the country’s largest cement producer aimed at fighting COVID-19 at community level to safeguard a healthy nation.

“We are delighted that coming together with Lafarge Zambia to fight COVID-19 is already brewing success, and we are indeed not just building better cities, but making a better world for all,” said Zambian Breweries country director Jose Moran, speaking on Monday (June 22,) when he handed over the medical supplies to the Chilanga-based COVID-19 quarantine centre.

He emphasised that the donated items would go a long way in quickening the hospital’s response to the pandemic.

“We believe these supplies will enhance the hospital’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The items will also assure safety of both medical staff and patients,” he said.

Mr Moran underscored the value the two companies attached to health workers as frontliners in the fight against COVID-19, saying: “We value and salute you, our health workers, for your unwavering fight against this disease. We couldn’t fight this battle alone without your care, love, and above all, your expertise,” the ZB country director noted.

Lafarge Chief Executive Officer Jimmy Khan said health and safety is Lafarge’s core value, thus the health and safety of our communities was of great importance to the company.

“Lafarge Zambia will continue to be innovative and create partnerships with other major players in the economy, to raise funds to fight the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.” said Lafarge Zambia Chief Executive Officer Mr Jimmy Khan, speaking on Monday when he handed over the medical supplies to the Chilanga based COVID-19 quarantine centre Tubalange Mini-Hospital.

Mr Khan also highlighted that Lafarge Zambia’s focus as a business was to not only provide quality-building materials for better cities, but it was also to support the government’s efforts in these uncertain times. “Our partnership with Zambian Breweries has shown that if major economic players in the country work together, they too can support our communities in different ways.” the Lafarge Zambia Chief Executive Officer said.

And, Chilanga District Commissioner Richard Ndazye hailed the two captains of industry for their gesture, saying: “I must say I am impressed with the commitment that Lafarge Zambia and Zambian Breweries have exhibited in the fight against COVID-19 in our community.

“This is my first public appearance after my appointment as District Commissioner Chilanga.  I am happy because my first assignment has to do with the good of the community, in association with two great companies Lafarge Zambia and Zambian Breweries who continues to create a great impact in the community through sharing best practices  on COVID-19 not only with employees, but more so, with the many stakeholders that the companies interfaces with.”

Zambian Breweries and Lafarge generated the K100,000 donated to Tubalange Mini-Hospital through a joint initiative dubbed Mosi Vibes At Home Online Music Experience.

The online party, which was held on May 23, 2020, was aimed at raising funds for frontline health workers in the war against COVID-19, based on the number of views from the live stream on Facebook

Over 50,000 citizens viewed the charitable party as they stayed home safe and enjoyed responsibly while indoors.

Recently, the beer and cement giants donated K100,000 to the University of Zambia (UNZA) School of Engineering to help develop the nation’s first prototype ventilator.
