Over 4,300 health workers in Zambia will receive face shields from Zambian Breweries this week as part of the pledge by the nation’s largest brewing company to stand together with government in the fight against COVID-19.

The face shields, which are made from recycled plastic, arrived in the country from South Africa aboard a DHL aircraft and were handed over to the Ministry of Health this week along with a further 50 face shields for frontline staff at ZNBC, which also saw its studios disinfected courtesy of the companies and Lusaka City Council.

“We are super-excited to take delivery of the face shields so we can now add further to our pledge to continue supporting government in the fight against COVID-19,” said Zambian Breweries, Brewery Operations Director, Franz Schepping.

The face-shields were made using recycled plastic from beer crates by Zambian Breweries’ sister company, South African Breweries, which will be making an initial donation of 100,000 units to South African healthcare workers in the forefront of battling this pandemic.

In Zambia, the shields are the latest contribution from Zambian Breweries, which has also developed a hand sanitiser formula and is manually bottling it for donation only to healthcare workers and staff.

Mr Schepping noted that protection of frontline health workers was vital if the fight against COVID-19 in Zambia was to be won.

“As front-liners in fighting this disease, health workers deserve the utmost protection. We value their unwavering commitment, sacrifice, and dedication to their vocation,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to DHL for transporting the face shields..

Allow me to thank our partner – DHL – for helping us move these face shields from South Africa. The courier company has demonstrated that together we can beat COVID-19,” the ZB Brewery Operations Director stressed.

Mr Schepping reiterated the brewing company’s commitment to combating the pandemic together with government.

“Even as we adjust to the new normal, we shall continue standing together with government until COVID-19 is defeated once and for all,” he emphasised.
